We don't have fall in LA. It's the one thing that I dislike about living here. There's only one tree on my block that's changed colour, but I think it might just be sick, and even if it isn't I don't think that I can convince my neighbor to let me walk around in its leaves just to hear them crunching. It hasn't even gotten cold yet. I just got back from being out with my friends and I didn't even need a jacket. The time has changed again, but it just feels like summer, only darker. The only fall-related thing I've seemed to get is a flare up of my seasonal allergies. Not fair.
This is the only time of the year that I start to miss living in New England, and for some reason I especially miss it this year. I bought some apple cider scented bodywash and made myself some butternut squash soup (very yummy) for dinner tonight, but it still doesn't feel like fall. I've tried taking a warm bath to make myself feel cozy, but I just got too hot and had to get out. (How am I supposed to start my annual cold weather Jane Eyre reading if it's too hot to even be able to read in the tub?) Everyone I know grew up in LA, so no one seems to get what I'm talking about. Yes, I know that I've lived here for more than a decade, but damnit, I want desperately to be somewhere where the air is spicy and chilly and you need a scarf and gloves.
I can live without winter, cause who really needs the hassle of snow and bitter cold and all that? Maybe I can covince Chad that we should spend a weekend in Big Bear to see if maybe they have some fall there.
